Leading up to Columbus' matchup against Marion County, a lot of the intrigue was centered around the one-on-one showdown between two of the area's best athletes, the Eagles' Lorenzo Smothers and the Blue Devils' Essang Bassey.

For at least one night, Bassey came out on top.

He limited Smothers to just 26 total yards of offense all game and added a 30-yard fumble return for a touchdown to help the Blue Devils hang on for a 21-14 win that kept their record spotless, 4-0 for the first time since 1971.

For his efforts, Bassey is the Sunday Best top performer of the week.
