Closer look at Friday night's games

COLUMBUS VS. LAGRANGE

When: 7:30 p.m.

Where: A.J. McClung Memorial Stadium

Records: Columbus 4-1, 0-1 Region 1-AAAAA. LaGrange 3-2, 1-0.

Last week: Columbus lost 30-3 to Carver. LaGrange beat Hardaway 49-6.

Series: LaGrange leads 28-14-1. The Grangers have won 11 straight. Columbus' lst win came in 1967.

You need to know: Columbus will try to bounce back from its first loss of the season. Ty Lucas leads Columbus in rushing with 302 yards on 45 carries. He has scored four TDs. Essang Bassey leads Columbus in receiving with 237 yards. He has also rushed for 258. Derrick James has completed 20-of-51 passes for 426 yards. LaGrange ended a two-game losing streak with its win over Hardaway last week.

HARDAWAY VS. SHAW

When: 7:30 p.m.

Where: Kinnett Stadium

Records: Hardaway 1-4, 0-1 Region 1-AAAAA. Shaw 2-3, 0-1.

Last week: Hardaway lost 49-6 to LaGrange. Shaw lost 17-14 to Northside.

Series: Shaw leads 16-12. The Raiders have won eight straight and 14 of 15. Hardaway's last win came in 1998.

You need to know: Both teams lost their region opener last week and will be looking to bounce back this week.

NORTHSIDE AT HARRIS COUNTY

When: 7:30 p.m.

Where: Tiger Stadium, Hamilton, Ga.

Records: Northside 2-2, 1-0 Region 1-AAAAA. Harris County 1-3, 0-0.

Last week: Northside beat Shaw 17-14. Harris County was idle.

Series: Harris County leads 5-1 with five straight wins, including 52-10 last season. Northside's lone win came in 2005, 49-27.

You need to know: Northside will be looking to stay unbeaten in region play. Kalan Watts has 459 yards rushing to lead the Patriots. Harris County coach Dwight Jones helped build the Northside program. He coached the Patriots to a 12-9 record in the school's first two seasons in 2004-05. That 2005 season is the only winning season in the program's young history.

JORDAN AT RUTLAND

When: 7:30 p.m.

Where: Ed Defore Sports Complex, Macon, Ga.

Records: Jordan 1-4, 0-3 Region 2-AAA. Rutland 1-4, 0-3.

Last week: Jordan lost 37-14 to Jackson. Rutland lost 36-0 to Peach County.

Series: Jordan leads 1-0 after a 34-6 victory last season.

You need to know: Quarterback Romello KImbrough leads Jordan with 858 yards passing (59-of-123) and 458 yards rushing (90 attempts). D'Andre Snead leads the Red Jackets with 361 yards receiving on 18 catches. he has five TDs. Both teams have lost three straight and are looking to keep their faint playoff hopes alive.

MARION COUNTY AT PACELLI

When: 7:30 p.m.

Where: Diemel Field

Records: Marion County 3-1, 2-0 Region 4-A. Pacelli 4-1, 3-0.

Last week: Marion County beat Schley County 46-0. Pacelli beat Dooly County 30-8.

Series: Marion County leads 7-0, including a 21-18 victory last season.

You need to know: Mykelle Kelley leads Marion County in rushing with 477 yards and for TDs. Lorenzo Smothers has 229 yards rushing and 134 receiving. Pacelli will be trying to win its first game ever against a second straight opponent. The Vikings beat Dooly County last week for the first time. Ben Davis leads Pacelli in rushing with 425 yards. Quarterback Tre Sudberry has passed for 574 yards and 367 yards rushing. DeAndre Bowman has 354 yards receiving and 313 rushing. The Vikings are 10th in the latest Class A-private school power rankings.

TAYLOR COUNTY AT BROOKSTONE

When: 7:30 p.m.

Where: Rex Knight Stadium

Records: Taylor County 1-3, 1-1 Region 4-A. Brookstone 2-2, 2-0.

Last week: Taylor County was idle. Brookstone beat Greenville 21-12.

Series: Brookstone leads 20-12 with nine straight wins, including 31-21 last season.

You need to know: Sam Ndem leads Brookstone in rushing with 274 yards. The Cougars are 12th in the latest Class A-private school power rankings.

HEARD COUNTY AT CHATTAHOOCHEE COUNTY

When: 7:30 p.m.

Where: Panther Stadium, Cusseta, Ga.

Records: Heard County 2-3, 0-0 Region 5-AA. Chattahoochee County 1-3, 0-0.

Last week: Heard County lost 27-12 to Macon County. Chattahoochee County lost 24-14 to Randolph-Clay.

Series: Heard County leads 3-0 including a 38-20 victory last season.

You need to know: Chattahoochee County quarterback C.J. Afoa tore a tendon in his elbow, so he has had to switch to playing receiver. He will have surgery after the season. Cory Dixon has taken over at QB.

BOWDON AT MANCHESTER

When: 7:30 p.m.

Where: Panther Stadium, Cusseta, Ga.

Records: Bowdon 1-3, 0-0 Region 5-AA. Manchester 3-2, 0-0.

Last week: Bowdon was idle. Manchester beat Northeast-Macon 40-10.

Series: Manchester leads 6-2, but Bowdon has won the last two, including 56-14 last season.

You need to know: Both teams are opening the region schedule this week.

SMITHS STATION AT CENTRAL

When: 8 p.m.

Where: Garrett-Harrison Stadium.

Records: Smiths Station 5-1, 1-1 Class 7A Region 2. Central 4-2, 3-0.

Last week: Smiths Station beat Russell County 42-7. Central lost 27-21 to Opelika.

Series: Central leads 18-5 with six straight wins, including 49-28 last season. Smiths Station's last win came in 2008, 27-24.

You need to know: Dalton Sinquefield has passed for 1,329 yards and rushed for 418. KJ Johnson leads the Panthers with 467 yards rushing. This is a must-win for Smiths Station if the Panthers are to have any hope of winning the region title. Jaxton Carson leads Central in rushing with 444 yards and six TDs. Quan Weaver had passed for 571 yards and rushed for 247. The Red Devils will be looking to remain undefeated in the region.

CARVER-MONTGOMERY AT RUSSELL COUNTY

When: 8 p.m.

Where: Corbett-Mitchell Stadium, Seale, Ala.

Records: Carver-Montgomery 2-3, 2-1 Class 6A Region 2. Russell County 0-5, 0-3.

Last week: Carver-Montgomery lost 25-7 to Prattville. Russell County lost 42-7 to Smiths Station.

Series: Carver-Montgomery leads 1-0 after last season's 54-0 victory.

You need to know: Russell County has scored just 33 points this season in the five losses. Russell County has lost 17 straight.
