Brookstone beats Schley, now Region 4-A softball champs
Brookstone rallied from an early deficit to down Schley 8-2 on Monday afternoon, winning the Region 4-A championship.
The Lady Cougars got a complete-game performance from Helen Snavely. She gave up two runs on five hits and three walks. She struck out 11.
Schley County jumped out to a 2-0 lead. Schley scored on a steal of home in the top of the first. Schley also scored a run in the second.
The Lady Cougars broke through in the third. Snavely singled with two outs. Nae McClain walked, then Taylor Roosm who went 3-for-4, doubled to center, driving in a run. Another run scored in the inning to tie the game.
Brookstone took the lead in the fourth. Deme Courtney singled to lead off. Leslie Harris reached on a bunt single. Haley Johnson followed with a single to score Courtney.
Brookstone put the game away with five runs in the sixth inning. Snavely drove in a pair of runs with a triple. Harris drove in a pair with a double
Marty Laughbaum also had a pair of hits for Brookstone.
