High school football: Look at Friday night's game

SHAW VS. COLUMBUS

When: 7:30 p.m.

Where: Kinnett Stadium

Records: Shaw 3-3, 1-1 Region 1-AAAAA. Columbus 5-1, 1-1.

Last week: Shaw beat Hardaway 6-3. Columbus beat LaGrange 21-13.

Series: Shaw leads 22-13 with 18 straight wins, including 43-6 last season. Columbus' last win came in 1994, 17-9, when Bobby Howard was the Blue Devils' coach.

You need to know: It is hard to know what to make of Shaw. In three games, the Raiders scored 133 points (44.3 per game). In the other three, they scored 20 (6.7 per game). The last time Columbus won as many as six games in a season was in 2005, when the Blue Devils finished 6-4. This game could not only be the deciding factor in determining a playoff berth at the end of the year, it could also mean the difference in a home playoff game or one on the road.

BROOKSTONE AT MARION COUNTY

When: 7:30 p.m.

Where: Eagle Stadium, Buena Vista, Ga.

Records: Brookstone 3-2, 3-0 Region 4-A. Marion County 4-1, 3-0.

Last week: Brookstone beat Taylor County 42-12. Marion County beat Pacelli 34-7.

Series: Marion County leads 4-3, including a 41-24 victory last season.

You need to know: Brookstone and Marion County are the last two undefeated teams in the region. Only one team has one loss, Hawkinsville. Brookstone was the team to beat Hawkinsville. Sam Ndem leads Brookstone with 413 yards rushing. Mykelle Kelley leads the Eagles with 605. Marion County's Lorenzo Smothers has 866 all-purpose yards (349 rushing, 174 receiving, 202 on kickoff returns and 141 on punt returns).

SCHLEY COUNTY AT PACELLI

When: 7:30 p.m.

Where: Diemel Field

Records: Schley County 0-5, 0-4 Region 4-A. Pacelli 4-2, 2-2.

Last week: Schley County lost 8-0 to Central-Talbotton. Pacelli lost to Marion County 34-7.

Series: Pacelli leads 8-7 including a 34-20 win last season.

You need to know: Schley County has scored just 20 points in its five games. The Wildcats have been shutout three times. Pacelli faces a must-win situation if it harbors any hope of winning the region championship. The Vikings lost do-it-all performer, De'Andre Bowman last week in the loss to Marion County. His status for this week's game is uncertain.

LIFE CHRISTIAN AT CALVARY CHRISTIAN

When: 7:30 p.m.

Where: Len McWilliams Field

Records: Life Christian 0-5, 0-1 GICAA Class I-AA. Calvary Christian 5-0, 2-0.

Last week: Life Christian NA. Calvary Christian was idle.

Series: First meeting.

You need to know: Calvary Christian will be looking to remain undefeated.

KENDRICK AT PEACH COUNTY

When: 8 p.m.

Where: Anderson Stadium, Fort Valley, Ga.

Records: Kendrick 2-3, 1-2 Region 2-AAA. Peach County 5-1, 4-0.

Last week: Kendrick was idle. Peach County beat Central-Macon 25-14.

Series: Peach County leads 8-1 with eight straight wins, including 60-8 last season. Kendrick's only win came in 1990, 21-7.

You need to know: Peach County has won five straight since opening the season with a 44-34 loss to Warner Robins.

STEWART COUNTY AT CHATTAHOOCHEE COUNTY

When: 7:30 p.m.

Where: Panther Stadium, Cusseta, Ga.

Records: Stewart County 0-6. Chattahoochee County 1-4.

Last week: Stewart County lost 47-12 to Baconton Charter. Chattahoochee County lost 41-20 to Heard County.

Series: Chattahoochee County leads 5-0, including 21-14 last season.

You need to know: Stewart County has scored just 54 points in its six games, having been shut out three times. The Royals have lost 26 straight. Chattahoochee County has lost three straight.

RUSSELL COUNTY AT STANHOPE ELMORE

When: 8 p.m.

Where: Foshee-Henderson Stadium, Millbrook, Ala.

Records: Russell County 0-6, 0-4 Class 6A Region 2. Stanhope Elmore 0-6, 0-4.

Last week: Russell County lost 55-14 to Carver-Montgomery. Stanhoipe Elmore lost 14-13 to Wetumpka.

Series: Stanhope Elmore leads 11-0, including a 42-26 win last season.

You need to know: These are the last two winless teams in the region. Russell County has lost 18 straight.

TUSCALOOSA ACADEMY AT GLENWOOD

When: 8 p.m.

Where: Sammy Howard Field

Records: Tuscaloosa 4-2, 0-1 AISA Class AAA Region 2. Glenwood 3-2, 1-1.

Last week: Tuscaloosa lost 55-28 to Bessemer. Glenwood was idle.

Series: Tuscaloosa leads 5-4, including a 42-10 win last season.

You need to know: Glenwood has already clinched a berth in the AISA state playoffs.

TRIPLE A ACADEMY AT CENTRAL

When: 8 p.m.

Where: Garrett-Harrison Stadium

Records: Triple A 4-2. Central 5-2.

Last week: Triple A beat Middle College 42-41. Central beat Smiths Station 41-14.

Series: First meeting.

You need to know: Triple A Academy merged with Prime Prep earlier this year. Deion Sanders is the offensive coordinator for Triple A.
