Davis, Sudberry lead Pacelli to win over Schley County
Pacelli's senior running back Ben Davis rushed for 102 yards and two touchdowns Friday as the Vikings ran by Schley County 35-0 at Diemel Field.
Vikings senior quarterback Tre Sudberry added 91 yards rushing and 97 yards passing on 6-of-8 completions. He also ran for two touchdowns and passed for another.
With the win, Pacelli moved to 5-2, 3-2 in Region 4A. Schley dropped to 0-6, 0-5 in region.
Davis, normally a fullback, played tailback in Pacelli's I-formation and carried the ball 17 times for 102 yards. He also made several tackles on defense.
"The defense pitched a shutout," said Pacelli coach Alan Griffin. "I thought we really buckled down on defense."
Schley managed 222 offensive yards, compared to Pacelli's 379. The Vikings had 282 yards on the ground and 97 in the air.
Pacelli standout running back and kick returner DeAndre Bowman did not play in the game due to a knee injury.
"Offensively, it was good to see we could move the ball without (Bowman)," said Griffin. "Obviously, we want him in the game, but it was good to see us execute the offense with the personnel we had."
Schley got the ball to start the game but after 3-and-out punted to the Vikings.
Pacelli scored on the next series at 6:12 in the first quarter, when Sudberry ran 21 yards off right end for a touchdown. The point after by Johnny Jacobs made the score 7-0.
The Vikings scored two touchdowns in the second quarter, both on runs by Davis of 10 and 8 yards, and led 21-0 at halftime.
In the third quarter, after an exchange of turnovers, Pacelli's Sudberry dropped back to pass on the Schley 20-yard line, felt pressure and scrambled the distance up the middle for a touchdown.
In the fourth quarter, Pacelli's final score came on a 4-yard pass from Sudberry to Kyle Brenna. "(Sudberry) showed great leadership tonight," said Griffin.
Defensively for the Vikings, Tanner Hall had two fumble recoveries and Mikal Marble had an interception.
Schley's leading rusher was Calvin Sims, who ran for 82 yards on 14 carries.Friday at Diemel FieldSchley Co. 0 0 0 0--0
