Daymontea White, Khalil Thomas lead Spencer past Jackson

Coming off a road win last week, Spencer hoped to keep the momentum going on Saturday afternoon at Kinnett Stadium

The Greenwave did just that in handing the Red Devils their first Region 2-AAA loss and snapping Jackson's four-game winning streak with a 34-14 victory.

After a rather listless first half for both teams that ended with Jackson up 7-0 after a long 88-yard pass play from quarterback Shaderious Crowder to running back Antavious Greer, the Greenwave went to work in the second half of play, scoring 27 unanswered points to take a commanding lead.

Daymeonta White was the catalyst behind the start of the Spencer offensive outburst, scoring on a 14-yard pass from Greenwave quarterback Khalil Thomas and then picking off a Crowder pass and scoring from 40 yards out. White would also go on to recover a Jackson fumble late in the third quarter which led to a Greenwave drive and score.

"We were really missing Daymeonta," Spencer coach Pierre Coffey said. "He got hurt in the Carver game and didn't come back until two weeks ago. He played sparingly in that game and a lot last week, and he was full tip today. That kid is a big-time player."

Thomas played efficiently at quarterback for the Greenwave in leading them to the second half comeback. He finished 18 of 21 in passing on the game for 154 yards and two touchdowns and also scored a touchdown on the ground, impressing his head coach.

"Khalil Thomas played lights out. Our quarterback play today was awesome," said Coffey.

The only Jackson touchdowns came on explosive passing plays, with their final score in the fourth quarter a 55 yard pass from Crowder to Ny'j Smith. Besides the two long scoring plays, the Greenwave held a very potent Jackson offense in check.

"We hang our head on playing solid defense and great special teams," said Coffey.

At 3-3, the Greenwave suddenly have all their goals still in front of them, including a playoff spot in a very competitive Region 2-AAA.

"I told my kids today that we've had some success this season, but in order to be the best, you have to beat the best," said Coffey. "I said (Jackson is) one of the top teams in the region, and for us to call ourselves a top team in the region, we have to go out and beat them. That was our slogan for the day. I'm ecstatic.

"We've got some great kids. They've worked so hard all season long, and they deserve this. This team bought into what we were doing, and this is the result. We have to build off of this. We've got to finish up strong and get in the playoffs. The back of our shirts say 'make history' that's what we want to do."Saturday at KinnettJackson 0 7 0 7--14
