Volleyball roundup: Northside, Brookstone eliminated; Calvary finished second in region
CANTON, Ga. -- Defending Class AAAAA state champion Sequoyah knocked Northside out of the state playoffs in the first round Thursday.
Sequoyah won 3-0 (25-23, 25-16, 25-15).
Northside finished the season 31-17, while Sequoyah advanced to the second round with a record of 22-14.
Morganne Harper lead Northside with 15 assists, four kills and two digs. Kaitlyn Ellis had 15 digs and an ace. Caitlyn Jakes had nine digs, six kills, four blocks and an ace.
Katie Jordan had five kills, five digs and an ace. Kendall Smith had seven digs, two kills and an ace.
Northside advanced to the state quarterfinals last season, where it also lost to Sequoyah.Thursday at Sequoyah

CALVARY TAKES 2ND IN REGION
STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. -- Leah Roper 48 assists, 10 digs and five kills Thursday to lead Calvary Christian to a second-place finish in the GICAA Area I-AA tournament.
Calvary defeated Sherwood 3-0 before losing to Community Christian 3-0.
Calvary will play in the state tournament Oct. 23-24 at the Suwanee Sports Complex.Thursday at Stockbridge, Ga.
