Brookstone manhandles Central-Talbotton

Brookstone routed Central Talbotton 48-6 Friday at Rex Knight Stadium.

The Cougars put 42 points on the board in the first half, and a running clock started in the second half.

"We had a chance to play everybody tonight, and that was good," Brookstone coach Scott Pethtel said.

The Cougars rebounded from a 40-0 loss to Marion County last week.

"We practiced with intent this week and wanted to prove that we can play, and we did that," Pethtel said. "We played well tonight."

Brookstone moved to 4-3, 4-1 in Region 4A, while Central fell to 3-5, 1-5.

Cougar sophomore quarterback Russell Blanchard accounted for three touchdowns, two rushing of 17 and 11 yards, and one on a 43-yard pass to Prather Hudson. Blanchard was 3-of-3 passing for 80 yards.

Hudson, a senior who plays both ways at running back and cornerback, finished with 127 yards, 57 receiving and 70 rushing. He scored two touchdowns, one on the 43-yard catch and the other on a 3-yard run. He also made several tackles.

Other Cougars scoring touchdowns were Sam Ndem, Josh Long and Culver Norred, all on 3-yard runs.

Brookstone made big plays on defense and special teams. Reid Lewis blocked a Central punt, which was recovered by the Cougars' Guy Kenimer. Sam Lowe had another fumble recovery for Brookstone. Wesley Tillman had an interception.

Frank Waldrep had two punt returns for 60 yards setting up good field position for the Cougars.

The only Central touchdown came in the third quarter when Tyler Gholston passed 45 yards to Zaire Barnes.

Next Friday the Cougars will try and win the Broocelli jug back from Pacelli in the annual clash between the two crosstown rival private schools.

"We need to play a compete game and get all three phases going," Pethtel said. "We will study, get our practices in, and be ready."
