Calvary Christian RB Anthony Santiago named Sunday Best

Calvary Christian has been pummeling its opponents this season. With the exception of a two-point win over Thomas Jefferson, the Knights have averaged winning by 47 points in its other six wins.

Running back Anthony Santiago has been a part of that. In the 55-12 win over Dawson Christian on Friday, he ran for 271 yards and five touchdowns.

For his efforts, he is the Sunday Best top performer.

Levi Dunn, Northside, QB: The quarterback rushed 12 times for 103 yards and a touchdown in a 31-0 win over Hardaway to keep his team undefeated in region play.

Northside defense: The Patriots defense pitched a 31-0 shutout against Hardaway to maintain an undefeated region record.

K.J. Johnson, Smiths Station, RB: Despite his team losing, Johnson was a bright spot with 23 carries for 157 yards in a 14-7 loss.

Lorenzo Smothers, Marion County, RB/WR: Rushed 17 times for 127 yards and a touchdown in a 20-7 win over Hawkinsville.

Mykelle Kelley, Marion County, RB: Rushed 13 times for 112 yards and a touchdown in a 20-7 win over Hawkinsville.

Marion County defense: The Eagles defense turned in another strong effort, allowing just seven points against Hawkinsville. Only once this year has the defense allowed more than 12 points in a game, and it is allowing fewer than eight points per contest.

Russell Blanchard, Brookstone, QB: Rushed for two touchdowns and passed for another in a 48-6 win over Central­Talbotton.

Brookstone defense: After getting shutout 40-0 against Marion County last week, the Cougars defense responded with a strong outing in a 48­6 win over Central-Talbotton.

Spencer defense: The Greenwave blanked Rutland 18­0 for a third straight victory.

Essang Bassey, Columbus, RB/WR: Rushed 13 times for 140 yards and a touchdown on offense and added an interception on defense in a 28­20 win over Harris County.

Jaxton Carson, Central, RB: Rushed for 113 yards and two touchdowns in a 43-14 win over Jeff Davis.

Jacquez Green, Calvary Christian, RB: Rushed for 147 yards and two touchdowns.

B.J. Knight, Shaw QB: Passed for 215 yards and two touchdowns.

Jawon Pass, Carver, QB: Rushed for two touchdowns and passed for another.

Best of the rest:

David Apiag, Northside, returned a kick 94 yards for a touchdown; Kalan Watts, Northside, carried 16 times for 79 yards and a touchdown; Prather Hudson, Brookstone, had 127 total yards and two touchdowns; Derrick James, Columbus, rushed for 81 yards and two touchdowns; Bubba Blackmon, Harris County, carried 14 times for 93 yards and two touchdowns; Ravaughn Turner, Central, rushed for 98 yards and a touchdown; Quan Weaver, Central, rushed for 79 yards and was 13-of-17 for 175 yards and a touchdown passing; Justyn Ross, Central, caught four passes for 67 yards and a touchdown; Central defense, allowed 255 total yards and zero points after the first quarter in a 43­14 win. Darius King and Demetrius Pettway each had interceptions.
