Carver's Jawon Pass receives Army All-American jersey
Carver quarter Jawon Pass was awarded with his Army All-American jersey on Wednesday in the school's gym.
"It means a lot," Pass said of the honor. "It's something I've been working toward for a long time. It's going to be a great game. It's the best in the country, and it's the Army game, so it's about more than just football."
Pass joined former teammate Mekhi Brown, now at Alabama, and former Tigers star Jarvis Jones, now with the Pittsburgh Steelers, to be selected to the prestigious game.
"It feels good to be able to keep the tradition going," he said. "It's just a blessing."
Pass is a senior quarterback, who is currently committed to Louisville. Carver is 6-1 this season and undefeated in Region 1-AAAAA play. While he has plenty of things to look forward to after this football season, Pass said he's still just trying to keep everything in perspective.
"We've been getting better every week," he said of Carver. "I feel good about it this year. We're just looking forward to trying to win a state championship."
Pass is a three-year starter for the Tigers. He was named the All-Bi-City offensive player of the year as a sophomore and to the All-Bi-City first team as a junior.
He was joined during the ceremony by members of his family, including his mother Kershena Thomas, sister Triniti Pass, grandmother Karyn Thomas and cousin Kinsley Thomas.
The Army All-American game will be played at 1 p.m. on Jan. 9 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, and will feature 90 of the nation's top high school football players.
