High school football: Closer look at Friday's games

NORTHSIDE VS. COLUMBUS

When: 7:30 p.m.

Where: Kinnett Stadium

Records: Northside 4-2, 3-0 Region 1-AAAAA. Columbus 6-2, 2-2.

Last week: Northside beat Hardaway 31-0. Columbus beat Harris County 28-20.

Series: Northside leads 8-3, including a 45-28 victory last season.

You need to know: Northside is tied with Carver atop the region standings. Those two teams play each other next week. Northside can clinch a playoff berth with a win. Northside has won three straight.

CARVER AT HARRIS COUNTY

When: 7:30 p.m.

Where: Tiger Stadium, Hamilton, Ga.

Records: Carver 6-1, 3-0 Region 1-AAAAA. Harris County 2-5, 1-2.

Last week: Carver beat Shaw 33-22. Harris County lost to Columbus 28-20.

Series: Carver leads 2-1, but Harris County won 34-14 last season.

You need to know: Carver can clinch a playoff berth with a win. Harris County stopped Carver's run of eight straight region titles last season.

BROOKSTONE AT PACELLI

When: 7:30 p.m.

Where: Diemel Field

Records: Brookstone 4-3, 4-1 Region 4-A. Pacelli 5-2, 3-2.

Last week: Brookstone beat Central-Talbotton 48-6. Pacelli was idle.

Series: Brookstone leads 27-16-1, but Pacelli has won last two, including 41-20 last season.

You need to know: Brookstone has won four of its last five games. Brookstone is 12th in the latest Class A-private power rankings, while Pacelli is 13th.

COVENANT AT CALVARY CHRISTIAN

When: 7:30 p.m.

Where: Len McWilliams Field

Records: Covenant 8-0, 3-0 GICAA Region I-AA. Calvary Christian 7-0, 3-0.

Last week: Covenant beat Community Christian 37-13. Calvary Christian beat Dawson Christian 55-12.

Series: Covenant leads 4-3 as the teams split a pair of games last year. Calvary won the first one 34-21 and Covenant won the second 42-39.

You need to know: These two teams along with Creekside are tied for first at 3-0 in the region standings. Covenant and Creekside play next week, then Calvary and Creekside play on Nov. 6.

GREENVILLE AT MARION COUNTY

When: 7:30 p.m.

Where: Eagle Stadium, Buena Vista, Ga.

Records: Greenville 3-4, 2-3 Region 4-A. Marion County 6-1, 5-0.

Last week: Greenville lost 54-30 to Taylor County. Marion County beat Hawkinsville 20-7.

Series: Marion County leads 6-2 with six straight wins, including 52-6 last season.

You need to know: Greenville has lost four straight since starting 3-0. With a win and a Brookstone loss, Marion County will wrap up its third straight region championship.

TEMPLE AT CHATTAHOOCHEE COUNTY

When: 7:30 p.m.

Where: Panther Stadium, Cusseta, Ga.

Records: Temple 3-4, 0-2 Region 5-AA. Chattahoochee County 2-5, 0-2.

Last week: Temple lost 41-7 to Bowdon. Chattahoochee County lost 7-6 to Bremen.

Series: Temple leads 3-2, but Chattahoochee County won 48-18 last season.

You need to know: The teams are tied for fifth in the six-team region. This is a must win for either to have a chance to make the playoffs.

MANCHESTER AT BREMEN

When: 7:30 p.m.

Where: Bremen Athletic Field, Bremen, Ga.

Records: Manchester 4-3, 1-1 Region 5-AA. Bremen 4-3, 2-0.

Last week: Manchester lost 35-21 to Heard County. Bremen beat Chattahoochee County 7-6.

Series: Series is tied 3-3 with Bremen winning 34-12 last season.

You need to know: Manchester is tied with Bowdon for third in the region, a game behind Bremen and Heard County, which are both 2-0. Bremen has won four straight after an 0-3 start.

JORDAN AT PEACH COUNTY

When: 8 p.m.

Where: Anderson Stadium, Fort Valley, Ga.

Records: Jordan 3-5, 2-4 Region 2-AAA. Peach County 6-2, 5-1.

Last week: Jordan beat Kendrick 41-0. Peach County lost 3-2 to Jackson.

Series: Peach County leads 10-4 with 10 straight wins, including 31-7 last season. Jordan's last win came in 1973.

You need to know: Jordan is in seventh place in the region, 1 1/2 games behind Spencer and Central-Macon, which are both 3-2. Peach County is in first place in the region by a half-game ahead of Westside-Macon and Jackson, which are both 4-1.

AUBURN AT SMITHS STATION

When: 8 p.m.

Where: Panther Stadium, Smiths Station, Ala.

Records: Auburn 4-4, 3-2 Class 7A Region 2. Smiths Station 6-3, 2-3.

Last week: Auburn beat Prattville 21-17. Smiths Station lost 14-7 to Enterprise.

Series: Auburn leads 18-7, including a 40-14 win last season. Auburn has 10 of the last 11. Smiths Station's lone win in that stretch was in 34-18 in 2013.

You need to know: Auburn has clinched a playoff berth, but it could be the second, third or fourth seed. Smiths Station gets in with a win and an R.E. Lee win. If Prattville beats R.E. Lee, the Panthers can not get in.

RUSSELL COUNTY AT DOTHAN

When: 8 p.m.

Where: Rip Hewes Stadium, Dothan, Ala.

Records: Russell County 0-8, 0-6 Class 6A Region 2. Dothan 5-4, 5-1.

Last week: Russell County lost 55-12 to Park Crossing. Dothan beat Carver-Montgomery 38-36.

Series: Dothan leads 7-0, including a 48-14 victory last season.

You need to know: Russell County has lost 20 straight. Dothan has secured the No. 2 seed from the region.

GLENWOOD AT ESCAMBIA

When: 8 p.m.

Where: Bachelor Field, Atmore, Ala.

Records: Glenwood 3-4. Escambia 6-3.

Last week: Glenwood lost 47-14 to Bessemer Academy. Escambia beat Pike Liberal 36-7.

Series: Glenwood leads 4-3, but Escambia won twice last season 41-0 in the regular season and 54-0 in the first round of the playoffs. Glenwood's last win in the series came in 1992.

You need to know: Glenwood closes out the season at home against Springwood next week.
