High school football: Closer look at Friday's games
COLUMBUS VS. HARDAWAY
When: 7:30 p.m.
Where: Kinnett Stadium
Records: Columbus 6-3, 2-3 Region 1-AAAAA. Hardaway 1-7, 0-4.
Last week: Columbus lost 24-17 to Northside. Hardaway was idle.
Series: Hardaway leads 29-16, but Columbus won 34-17 last season. That broke a string of six straight wins by Hardaway.
You need to know: Columbus doesn't guarantee itself a playoff berth or a place in a mini-game with a win, but the Blue Devils would be close. Hardaway can't make the playoffs, but by winning out the Hawks could be a factor in which team does make the postseason.
CARVER VS. NORTHSIDE
When: 7:30 p.m.
Where: A.J. McClung Memorial Stadium.
Records: Carver 7-1, 4-0 Region 1-AAAAA. Northside 5-2, 4-0.
Last week: Carver beat Harris County 46-14. Northside beat Columbus 24-17.
Series: Carver leads 5-0, including a 37-21 win last season.
You need to know: The winner wins the Region 1-AAAAA championship and the No. 1 seed for the state playoffs. Carver can do no worse than second in the region. If Northside loses and LaGrange beats Harris County, then Northside would need to beat LaGrange to clinch second seed.
HARRIS COUNTY AT LAGRANGE
When: 7:30 p.m.
Where: Callaway Stadium.
Records: Harris County 2-6, 1-3 Region 1-AAAAA. LaGrange 4-4, 2-2.
Last week: Harris County lost 46-14 to Carver. LaGrange beat Shaw 35-28.
Series: LaGrange leads 7-2, but Harris County has won last two, including 44-34 last season.
You need to know: Harris County is not out of the playoff hunt, but the Tigers must win this week and beat Shaw next week to have a chance. LaGrange clinches a playoff berth with a win and a Columbus loss.
DOOLY COUNTY AT BROOKSTONE
When: 7:30 p.m.
Where: Rex Knight Field
Records: Dooly County 5-3, 4-2 Region 4-A. Brookstone 5-3, 5-1.
Last week: Dooly County beat Taylor County 20-14. Brookstone beat Pacelli 14-0.
Series: Dooly County leads 7-2, including three straight wins, including 34-7 last season.
You need to know: Dooly County is 11th in the latest Class A-public school rankings. Brookstone remained 12th in the private-school rankings after its win over Pacelli last week. The top 16 for both public and private make the state playoffs.
HAWKINSVILLE AT PACELLI
When: 7:30 p.m.
Where: Diemel Field
Records: Hawkinsville 5-4, 4-3 Region 4-A. Pacelli 5-3, 3-3.
Last week: Hawkinsville beat Schley County 34-6. Pacelli lost to Brookstone 14-0.
Series: Hawkinsville leads 7-0, including 27-7 last season.
You need to know: Hawkinsville is 21st in the Class A public school power rankings. Pacelli slipped to 15th after its loss to Brookstone.
CHATTAHOOCHEE COUNTY AT MANCHESTER
When: 7:30 p.m.
Where: Memorial Stadium, Manchester, Ga.
Records: Chattahoochee County 3-5, 1-2 Region 5-AA. Manchester 5-3, 2-1.
Last week: Chattahoochee County beat Temple 31-27. Manchester beat Bremen 26-20.
Series: Manchester leads 2-1, but Chattahoochee County won 35-16 last season.
You need to know: Chattahoochee County is tied with Bowdon for fourth in the region. Manchester is tied with Bremen for second in the region, both are a game behind Heard County.
MARION COUNTY AT TAYLOR COUNTY
When: 7:30 p.m.
Where: Viking Stadium, Butler, Ga.
Records: Marion County 7-1, 6-0 Region 4-A. Taylor County 3-5, 3-3.
Last week: Marion County beat Greenville 47-8. Taylor County lost 20-14 to Dooly County.
Series: Marion County leads 5-0, including a 41-0 victory last season.
You need to know: Marion County can win its second straight region championship with a victory or a Brookstone loss.
CALVARY CHRISTIAN AT COMMUNITY
When: 7:30 p.m.
Where: Stockbridge, Ga.
Records: Calvary Christian 7-1, 3-1 GICAA Region I-AA. Community 6-2, 2-2.
Last week: Calvary Christian lost 49-35 to Covenant Academy. Community beat Life Christian 33-0.
Series: Calvary Christian leads 3-0, including a pair of wins last season, 42-28 during the regular season and 26-14 in the playoffs.
You need to know: Calvary Christian looks to bounce back after its first loss of the season.
SPRINGWOOD AT GLENWOOD
When: 8 p.m.
Where: Sammy Howard Field.
Records: Springwood 5-4. Glenwood 3-5.
Last week: Springwood beat Evangel 28-6. Glenwood lost 41-0 to Escambia.
Series: Springwood leads 15-14, including a 16-0 victory last season.
You need to know: This is a nonregion game, which will close out the regular season for both teams. Both teams will be in the playoffs next week.
