Glenwood wins regular-season finale

Glenwood broke a four-game losing streak as a trio of Gators paced them to a 34-10 conquest of visiting Springwood Academy Friday night at Sammy Howard field for homecoming.

Carrington Huddleston and Mario Richmond both went over the 100-yard rushing barrier and Stephen Blocker scored a touchdown on both offense and defense to lead the Gators in the hard-hitting contest.

In fact, two Glenwood players were ejected after getting called for personal fouls -- linebacker-running backs Chad Dykes and Quan Holt left the game in the second half.

Springwood took the opening kickoff and got a 33-yard field goal from Tom Schellen for a 3-0 lead and the only lead the Wildcats would have in the game.

Later in the period behind the hard running of Richmond, the Gators took a 7-0 lead they never relinquished. He got the TD on a seven-yard run.

That's when Blocker got into the act as he picked up a fumbled toss to the Wildcats' Shykee Thomas and went six yards for a 14-3 lead.

Thomas narrowed the margin when he culminated a 65-yard drive with a 16-yard run for a touchdown for Springwood. But two plays after the kickoff Huddleston broke free on a 75 yard TD run and a 21-10 lead the Gators refused to give up.

Glenwood was credited with 341 yards on the ground as Richmond had 152 yards on 16 carries and Huddleston finished with 126 on 16 runs as well.

Blocker grabbed an interception in the second period but it was nullified by a pass interference penalty.

Glenwood added two more TD's in the second half as Blocker on offense went 8 yards on a sweep in the third period and Huddleston scored his second TD of the night on a 15 yard run in the fourth.

Thomas came into the game needing 50 yards to go over the 1,500 yard mark for the season, and he made that as he ran for 75 yards on 17 runs and a TD to pace the Wildcats.
