Sunday Best honor goes to Spencer
The Sunday Best usually highlights greats individual performances. The offensive and defensive players -- or even special-teamers -- who perform the best in a win or a loss.
But this week, the Sunday Best goes to an entire team -- the Spencer Greenwave.
Spencer won its fifth straight game Saturday -- 34-8 over Kendrick -- to clinch a winning season for the first time in 38 years.
"A lot of people didn't think we could do this, but we did," Spencer senior Daymeonta White told the Ledger-Enquirer after Saturday's game. "It's a dream come true. We feel we are unbeatable.
"Spencer is tired of having losing teams, and the school wants this to be more than just one year. The coaches, even the school administration, have been great."
And the Greenwave may not be done. A win over Jordan on Friday will secure a playoff berth, Spencer's first since 1993. The Greenwave can make it with a loss, but it could come down to a three-way tie and a mini-game in that case.
