High school football: Closer look at Thursday night's game

CARVER VS. HARDAWAY

When: 7 p.m.

Where: Kinnett Stadium

Records: Carver 8-1, 5-0 Region 1-AAAAA. Hardaway 1-8, 0-5.

Last week: Carver beat Northside 28-25. Hardaway lost 35-6 to Columbus.

Series: Hardaway leads 18-15, but Carver has won six straight, including 56-7 last season. Hardaway's last win came in 2004.

You need to know: Carver has won 38 straight games against other MCSD teams. The last loss came against Shaw in the 2006 state semifinals in the Georgia Dome. Carver won the Region 1-AAAAA championship with its victory over Northside last week. The Tigers will be the No. 1 seed for the upcoming state playoffs, which will begin Nov. 13. This will be the last game as Hardaway's head coach for Jeff Battles. He announced Wednesday that he is stepping down after eight seasons.
