Stockbridge ground game dominates Columbus in 48-7 win
Jamari Clark and Jalen Holston each scored on two touchdown runs Friday night as Stockbridge dominated in a 48-7 win over Columbus in the first round of GHSA Class AAAAA playoffs.
Stockbridge (11-0) scored its intitial touchdown in the first quarter on a pass Malachi Brown to Marquez Ezzard. In the second quarter Clark scored twice and Holston once to put Stockbridge up 28-0 at the half.
Holston scored on a run in the third quarter to put Stockbridge up 35-0.
Kendrick Duncan and Donovan Manuel added touchdowns in the fourth quarter and Stockbridge led 48-0.
Columbus scored late in the game on a touchdown pass by Brandon Mapel.
Columbus (7-4) had its most wins since 1994, when the Blue Devils went 9-3. Friday night's game was the first for Columbus since that 1994 season. Columbus lost 40-0 to Thomas County Central that season. Columbus has not won a state playoff game since beating Richmond Academy 13-7 in the 1974 state quarterfinals.
This year Columbus finished a in three-way tie for third place in Region 1-AAAAA. Columbus lost the first mini-game tiebreaker to Shaw, but then beat LaGrange to earn a spot in the playoffs.
