High school roundup: Pacelli, Brookstone bow out of state playoffs

KENNESAW, Ga. -- Ben Davis rushed for 114 yards and two touchdowns, but it wasn't enough as Pacelli fell 56-34 to Mount Paran on Friday in the first round of the Class 1A-private school state playoffs.

Dre Bowman rushed for 76 yards and a touchdown.

Quarterback Tre Sudberry scored a pair of touchdowns.

Pacelli finished its first season under Alan Griffin with a 7-4 record.

Mount Paran is 10-1 and will face Eagles's Landing Christian in the second round on Nov. 27.

BROOKS COUNTY 41, MANCHESTER 26

QUITMAN, Ga. -- Manchester fell 41-26 to Brooks County in the second round of the Class 2A state playoffs.

The Blue Devils finished 8-4 in their first season with Evan Hochstetler as the head coach.

AQUINAS 42, BROOKSTONE 7

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Quarterback Liam Welch threw for two touchdowns and ran for two as Aquinas beat Brookstone 42-7 in the first round of the Class 1A-private school state playoffs.

Aquinas scored 14 points in each of the first three quarters.

Brookstone's lone score came in the second quarter on a 5-yard run by Josh Long, but the Cougars already trailed 21-0 at the time.

The Cougars finished their season at 6-5.

Brookstone returned to the state playoffs in its first season under Scott Pethtel.

Aquinas hosts Christian Heritage in next week's quarterfinals. Christian Heritage beat Athens Academy 7-0 on Friday.
