Columbus High coach George Williams is pleased with the growth of the Columbus Showcase, but he is not satisfied.

The second annual high school basketball event started Monday with three girls games, then it will conclude with six boys games today.

Last year, there were five boys games on one day.

"We are trying to make it where the players have some exposure," Williams said. "This year there will be some recruiting services as well as some college coaches here."

Six of the eight MCSD schools will have their boys teams playing, with Kendrick, Shaw, Carver, Hardaway and Northside joining Columbus. Spencer and Jordan are not.

Area teams such as Chattahoochee County, Manchester and Russell County are also in the field.

Mays from Atlanta, Lambert from Suwanee, Ga., and Notasulga (Ala.) are playing this season.

Williams is hoping to expand the boys event to two days.

"If we can get sponsors, then we can get it to two days," Williams said. "When you are trying to bring in some of the best teams from around the state, you need two days."
