Glenwood knocks off No. 1 Tuscaloosa Academy

Tuscaloosa Academy entered the weekend as the top-ranked team in the AISA, while Glenwood was No. 4. Those rankings didn't hold as Glenwood routed Tuscaloosa 62-40 on Saturday.

The Knights jumped out to a 6-0 lead before Glenwood coach Dusty Perdue called a timeout.

"That first four minutes was not good for us. We missed a couple of shots we should have made," Purdue said.

The message worked as the Gators outscored the Knights 34-13 before halftime to take a 34-19 lead.

Pacing the Gators' attack wwere James Beck and Trip Day. Both players scored 20 points.

The only double-figure scorer for Tuscaloosa was Jamarcus Darien who had 15.

"We played well and had a good turnout for a rainy Saturday game. I knew they were No. 1 in the state and we played very well on both offense and defense," Perdue said.

It was the second loss in two days as the Knights lost the previous night to Glenwood arch-rival Lee Scott.Glenwood girls 46, Tuscaloosa 23The Lady Gators outscored Tuscaloosa Academy 28-10 in the second half.

For the Lady Gators the inside scoring and rebounding of Audrey Crowe and Morgan Grant were the keys to victory. Both had double-doubles in the contest. Grant had 20 points and 12 rebounds, while Crowe added 16 more and 12 boards. She added five assists.

"We played well as a team and it was a team victory," Glenwood girls coach Julie Humphries said. "We played well defensively and our offense is keyed by our defense."
