High school roundup: Central goes 1-1 as Bobby Howard era begins

The Bobby Howard-era at Central got off to a successful start as the Red Devils beat Opelika 7-3 in Game 1 of a doubleheader on Thursday night.

Central lost Game 2, 6-2, as Opelika scored four runs in the top of the seventh.

Slade Gorman drove in a run and Dayton Edmonds double in two as Central took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first.

Central led 3-1 heading to the bottom of the fifth. Gorman hit a homer. Later in the inning, Dalton Wilder doubled in three to blow the game open with a 7-1 lead.

Noah Wilkes picked up the win. He allowed three runs on nine hits in 5 2-3 innings.Thursday at Darnell-Nelson Field
