High school roundup: Smiths Station sweeps past N. Jackson

Smiths Station swept North Jackson in a doubleheader, 11-1 and 4-2, on Saturday at home.

Hunter Milam picked up the win for the Panthers in the first game, and Hunter Woodall, Dalton Sinquefield and Timm McGonegle each contributed two hits. In the second, Jared Head got the win, and Sinquefield and Devin Brown each had two hits

Central 12, Williston (Fla.) 7

Central scored four runs in the fourth and five in the sixth to defeat Williston (Fla.) 12-7 in the first game.

Slade Gorman knocked a home run and drove in two, while Tanner Belcher, Evan Baber, Brant Knox, Jackson Cook and Wade Chandler all also had multi-hit games.

Central 5, Providence (Fla.) 1

Jackson Cook went 1-for-2 with a home run and two RBIs to help lead the Red Devils to a 5-1 win over Providence on Saturday.

Dalton Wilder picked up the win on the mound, and Evan Baber went 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Russell County 11-5, Manchester 4-1

Russell County swept a doubleheader against Manchester on Saturday at home.

In the first game, Russell County scored four runs in the first inning and five in the third, cruising to an 11-4 victory..

In the second, the Warriors got a complete-game two-hitter from Zach Henderson to win 5-1.

Russell County 12, Andalusia 9

Russell County scored five runs in the first and two each in the second, third and fourth to defeat Andalusia 12-9 on Saturday in the third of four games on the day.

Logan Austin got the win on the mound for the Warriors, and Matt Wilson and Michael Gayles each had three RBIs. Wilson also had a double and a home run, and Gayles had a home run.

The Warriors improved to 11-10 on the season.

Brookstone 16, Miller County 0

The Cougars scored eight runs each in the second and fourth innings to defeat Miller County 16-0 in four innings.

Banks Massey picked up the win on the mound, and Drew Webb went 1-for-2 with a home run and three RBIs. Sam Lowe and Trey Lingo also each had three RBIs in the game.

Brookstone 12, Mt. Vernon 2

Brookstone got a home run and three RBIs from Drew Webb, two RBIs from Preston Campbell, three hits from Trey Lingo and three RBIs from Banks Massey to top Mount Vernon 12-2 in six innings on Saturday.

Culver Norred pitched a complete game to get the win.

Hooper 2, Calvary Christian 1

Calvary Christian dropped a 2-1 decision to Hooper Academy on Saturday at Golden Park.

Cody Russell picked up the loss on the mound, but pitched a complete game and allowed just five hits while striking out nine. Christopher Wright went 1-for-2 with a double and a run scored, and Nick Baker had two hits in the game.

The Knights fall to 9-4 and will play against on Tuesday at Central Fellowship.

Glenwood 8, Macon East 0

The Glenwood girls shut out Macon East 8-0 on Saturday. The Lady Gators were led by two goals from Jordyn Wheeler and three assists from Whitley Anderson. Keeper Maloreigh Todd recorded four saves in the shutout.

Columbus, Harris County win meets

The Columbus girls and Harris County boys each finished in first at the Brookstone Cougar Classic on Saturday at Brookstone. The Lady Blue Devils finished with a score of 160, while the Tigers scored 123.

Kd McCauley (LaGrange) led boys scorers with 21 points, and Annaya Chelcy (LaGrange) led the girls with 24.50.

Columbus wins Spring Swing

The Columbus girls golf team placed first out of 24 teams on Saturday at the ninth annual Spring Swing at Mossy Creek Golf Course in Cleveland, Ga.

Amy Clark was the medalist with a score of 72.

Brookstone beat Stratford 3-2 on Friday afternoon. Josh Fernicola and Taylor Harris won singles matches for the Cougars, and Reed Bickerstaff and Joel Umana won as a team in doubles.
