High school roundup: Columbus High girls win Granger Invitational

The Columbus High girls tennis team won the Granger Invitational championship with a 4-1 victory over North Oconee on Saturday.

Columbus advance to the title match with a 4-1 win over North Cobb and 3-2 over North Gwinnett on Friday.

It was the first time the Lady Blue Devils won in the top division in the Granger Invitational.

Nick Baker pitched a five-inning no-hitter to lead Calvary Christian to an 11-0 win over EFCA on Saturday.

It was his second no-hitter of the season.

Kyle Masse had two hits and drove in four runs.

Team Georgia won the 14th annual Georgia-South Carolina Challenge Cup, which was held Friday and Saturday at Alpharetta (Ga.) Athletic Club’s East Course.

The format called for each team to take the best 12 individual scores each day. Georgia shot 868-878-1746, 18-over par. South Carolina shot 880-894-1774.

Among the high school scores, Columbus finished third with a 608 (303-305). Mill Creek won with a 580 with Gaffney (S.C.) second at 606. Marist, last year’s Class 4A champion, was fourth at 610. Cambridge, last year’s 5A champion, was fifth at 612.

Nolan Miller led Columbus with a 145 (68-77).

All four of the Columbus players contributed to the Team Georgia score. The scores from Miller and Ben Carr contributed to Friday’s score. Daniel David and Jonathan Parker contributed on Saturday.

Columbus plays in the Packer Invitational at Moultrie, Ga., next weekend.
