High school roundup: Rich hits 3-run homer to key win

Harry Rich hit a three-run homer to cap a five-run fifth inning to lead Harris County to a 6-2 victory over Hardaway on Saturday afternoon.

Hardaway had taken a 2-0 lead in the first as Jordan Manibusan drove in a run. Jonathan Manibusan later scored on an error.

Justin Brooks picked up the win in relief. He held the Hawks scoreless over the final 4 2/3 innings.

RAIN FORCES POSTPONEMENTS

Central and Russell County both had two games postponed due to rain in Southeast Alabama on Saturday,

Central had a doubleheader against Fairhope scheduled to be played at Troy University. Central coach Bobby Howard said he hoped to reschedule the games.

Russell County was slated to play Early County and Northview at Northview. Those games have been rescheduled for April 18.

Lafayette 1,123

The Columbus High rifle team beat Lafayette 1,131-1,123 in the GHSA rifle sectionals.

Veronica Leggett led Columbus with a 293.

With the win, Columbus advances to the state semifinals next week.

Anthony Ward drove in a pair of runs, but Russell County fell 6-4 to Tallassee in Game 2 of a doubleheader Friday night.

Tallassee won the first game 8-2.
