High school roundup: Northside rifle team advances to state finals

The Northside rifle team will return to defend its state championship after beating Lumpkin County 1,142-1,134 on Thursday in the semifinals.

Shelby Huber led the Patriots with a score of 290 out of 300.

This will Northside’s 12th appearance in the state finals in 14 seasons.

Columbus is also in the semifinals. Its semifinal is at Lee County. Schools have until April 2 to schedule their semifinal matches.

Baseball

Hardaway 3, Shaw 1

Jonathan Manibusan gave up just one unearned run to lead Hardaway to a 3-1 victory over Shaw on Thursday afternoon.

Manibusan gave up seven hits and walked one. He didn’t allow Shaw to score until the bottom of the seventh.

Chandler Griggs knocked in a pair of runs for the Hawks. Mykel Page had a pair of hits and drove in the other.

Wesley Johnson had two hits for Shaw.
