Columbus wins Region 1-5A golf championship

The Columbus High boys golf team’s dominance continued on Monday as the Blue Devils won their 15th region title in the past 16 years.

Columbus shot a 309 on Monday at the Highland Country Club in LaGrange to win the Region 1-5A championship. Highland is a par-72, Donald Ross designed course.

Northside was second at 326 with Harris County third at 332.

With the win, Columbus receives a berth in the state tournament, which will be held on May 16 at Bartram Trail Golf Club in Augusta.

Northside and Harris County will play in the state sectional tournament on May 2 at Georgia National in McDonough.

“Under the current format, winning region is the main goal to get a bye to state,’’ Columbus coach Chris Parker said.

Columbus has won 10 state golf championships with the most recent coming in 2010 and 2011.

Columbus’ Daniel Davis led the way and won medalist honors with a 73.

Harris County’s Kason Partridge was second with a 76.

Columbus was playing without Ben Carr, who missed the tournament with an ankle injury.

Columbus has now won each of the last four events it has entered.
