High school roundup: Harris County’s Hutchinson wins pair of region titles
Harris County’s Joshua Hutchinson won a pair of events on Tuesday, the first day of the Region 1-5A track meet at Kinnett Stadium.
He won in the long jump at 22-feet, 1.5 inches. He also won the pole vault at 11-6.
Other boys winners were Duke Haslam (Northside, discus, 140 feet) and Jonathan Myrthil (Northside, 1,600, 4:27.33)
Girls region winners were Santela Sparks (Columbus, high jump, 5-2), Breeanna Mahone (Shaw, long jump, 18-3), Jasmine Herndon (Northside, shot put, 39-9), Hope Skypek (Columbus, 1,600, 5:31.19).
Results from Wednesday’s finals were not available.

Drew Webb hit a homer, a double and scored three times to lead Brookstone to a 12-2 win over Marion County on Wednesday.

Spencer teams second
Both Spencer track and field teams finished second in the Region 2-3A meet Tuesday at Lamar County High in Barnesville, Ga.
Westside-Macon won the girls meet with 126 points to Spencer’s 99. Kendrick was seventh at 20 and Jordan was eighth at 15.
Peach County won the boys meet with 122 to Spencer’s 94. Jordan was third at 89 and Kendrick was fifth at 64.
Girls who won region events were Jastone Hill (Spencer, 800, 2:26.34), Ariel Sadler (Spencer, 1,600, 6:06.83; 3,200, 13:50.77), Tahzma Wicker (Spencer, high jump, 5-feet). J’Kierreia Garrett, Ladaisha Williams, Hill and Wicker combined to win the 4x400 in 4:10.21.
Boys won region events were Jemarius Holloway (Kendrick, 200, 21.85), Ameir Abrams (Spencer, 800, 2:05.29), Jeremiah Rounds (Spencer, 1,600, 4:55.6), Justin Perry (Jordan, 3,200, 10:54.6), D’Andre Snead, Jordan, 300 hurdles, 41.42), Ryan Williams (Spencer, high jump, 6-feet) and Da-Shae Hubbard (Spencer, long jump, 22-0.5.5).

Sara Castillo scored the go-ahead run in the top of the sixth inning to lead Central to a 4-3 win over Smiths Station on Tuesday.
She reached base after she was hit by a pitch. She stole second and third and scored on an errant throw by the Smiths Station catcher.
The win gave Central its fifth straight Area 3-7A regular-season championship.
