High school roundup: Three local tennis teams prepare for state semifinals

Two of the three local state tennis semifinalists will play at home.

The Brookstone girls will be the first one to go with a Class A-private school match Friday (10 a.m.) against Walker scheduled for the Brookstone courts.

Brookstone, which won Area 1, has swept both Christian Heritage and Pinecrest 5-0 in the first two rounds. Walker, the Area 4 champion, beat Savannah Christian 4-0 in the first round. It beat Athens Academy in the second round.

The Brookstone boys, which won Area 1, will also play at home at 2 p.m. Monday. The opponent will be Paideia, which has won a pair of matches against higher-seeded teams so far. Paideia, the 3 seed from Area 3, beat Hebron Christian, a 2 seed from Area 2, 3-0, then it beat Area 4 champion Mt. Paran, 3-0.

Brookstone beat Mt. Pisgah 4-1 in the first round and Landmark Chroistian 4-1 in the second round.

The Columbus girls will take their unbeaten record on the road to face Cambridge at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Columbus, which is 23-0, has beaten Union Grove (4-1), Clarke Central (3-1) and Dunwoody (3-0) in the first three round of the Class 5A tournament.

Cambridge, which won Region 7, has beaten Southwest DeKalb (5-0), Coffee County (4-0) and Starr’s Mill (4-0). Cambridge is located in Milton.

The state championships are scheduled for May 7 at the Clayton County International Park in Jonesboro.

Central 11, Beulah 1

Gracie Deaton hit a home run and Jadia Jones collected three hits as Central beat Beulah 11-1 on Thursday night.

The game started on Wednesday and was suspended due to rain.

Hardaway, Harris eliminated

The Hardaway boys and the Harris County girls lost in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs Wednesday.

Hardaway lost 5-0 at McIntosh.

Harris County lost 9-0 at Starr’s Mill.
