High school roundup: Local athletes qualify for state track meets
The Georgia High School Association held state track sectionals on Saturday.
The top eight in each event earned berths in the state finals. The girls state finals are held Thursday through Saturday in Albany. The boys state finals are scheduled for May 12-14 in Jefferson.
In the Class 5A Sectional A meet at Starr’s Mill in Fayetteville, the following athletes qualified:
Girls
Carver — Maliyah Holloway (shot put, 2nd, 41-02.5)
Columbus — Brittany Floyd (800, 5th, 2:22.20; long jump, 4th, 18-11.25; triple jump, 7th, 36-06.5); Santela Sparks (high jump, 4th, 5-02); Kasey Walton (high jump, 7th, 5-0); Tiondra Grant (shot put, 38-05; discus, 3rd, 119-03)
Harris County — Mary Clark (pole vault, 2nd, 11-06)
Northside — Erin Nix (100, 8th, 12:37); Jasmine Herndon (shot put, 3rd, 41-0)
Shaw — Breeanna Mahone (200, 3rd, 24.48; 400, 2nd, 55.42; long jump, 2nd, 19-04.25); Kareema Grier (400, 1st, 54.69); Semia Houston (800, 4th, 2:22.69); Kianna Jackson (100 hurdles, 7th, 15.56; triple jump, 6th, 36-07.5).
The Shaw 4x100 relay team (Dazieha Granby, Thalia Sutherland, Grier, Mahone) was second at 47.25. The Shaw 4x400 team (Grier, Deja Allen, Sutherland, Mahone) was first at 53.81.

Carver — U.S. Beasley (200, 2nd, 22.32); Sacred Vigil (long jump, 8th, 21-01; triple jump, 5th, 44-11).
Hardaway — Deton Hicks (200, 8th, 22.60).
Harris County — Joshua Hutchinson (pole vault, 12-0); Jeremiah Trammell (long jump, 6th, 22-03; triple jump, 1st, 45-11)
Northside — Tyrris Mitchell (100, 2nd, 11.06; 200, 3rd, 22.05); Jonathan Myrthil (800, 1st, 1:56.94; 1,600, 1st, 4:23.48); Austin Kidd (3,200, 6th, 9:49.99); Alec Tanksley (300 hurdles, 5th, 40.54); Cordale Scott (high jump, 2nd, 6-02); Duke Haslem (discus, 7th, 134-0).
Shaw — Cadarius Dixon (400, 8th, 50.57)
The Harris County 4x100 relay team (Juan O’Neal, Jaylyn Richardson, Jeremiah Trammell, Tyrese McPhatter) finished 7th at 42.78.
The Northside 4x100 team (Tyler Askew, Mitchell, Jaylin Holiday, Jamir Austin) finished 8th in 42.86.
The Northside 4x400 team (Askew, Myrthil, Mitchell, Noah Chuchwell) finished second in 3:25.78).
In the Class 3A Sectional A at Gordon Central in Calhoun the following athletes qualified:
Girls
Spencer— Tajzma Wicker (100, 7th, 12.59); Jastonie Hill (400, 5th, 59.68; 800, 2nd, 2:22.54); Ladaisha Williams (800, 5th, 2:29.08); Ariel Sadler (1,600, 5th, 5:51.03; 3,200, 6th, 13:34.38).
The Spencer 4x100 relay team (Hill, Wicker, Williams, J’Kierreia Garrett) was eighth in 50.16. The same four finished third in the 4x400 in 4:07.26.
Boys
Jordan— Justin Perry (3,200, 7th, 10:42.89); Darin Lewis (100 hurdles, 7th, 16.09); Jomera Pickett (300 hurdles, 5th, 42.13); D’Andre Snead (300 hurdles, 7th, 42.69)
Kendrick— Jemarius Holloway (100, 7th, 11.00; 200, 4th, 22.05); Tommy Davis (400, 7th, 50.64)
Spencer— Da-Shae Hubbard (400, 4th, 49.89); Ameir Abrams (800, 5th, 2:04.30)
The Spencer 4x400 team (Abrams, Jermaine Hernandez, Ryan Williams, Hubbard) finished fifth in 3:28.35.
In the Class A-private school Sectional at North Oconee in Bogart, the following athletes qualified:

Brookstone — Antonia Nunley (high jump, 3rd, 4-10); Avery Holbrook (pole vault, 7th, 8-06); Naeisha McClain (shot put, 7th, 37-07.5; discus, 3rd, 132-02)
Boys
Brookstone — Wesley Tillman (110 hurdles, 4th, 15.29); Joel Brown (300 hurdles, 8th, 42.89); Aleks Slavich (pole vault, 5th, 11-06).
Soccer
Calvary 2, Community 0
Amanda Woolbright scored a pair of goals to lead Calvary Christian to a 2-0 win over Community Christian in the first round of the GICAA state playoffs.
The Lady Knights will play at Creekside on Tuesday in the semifinals.
Alleluia 5, Calvary Christian 1
Jack Woolbright scored Calvary Christian’s lone goal in a 501 loss to Alleluia in the first round of the GICAA state playoffs.
