Smiths Station’s Alonie Sutton sets new state record in winning triple jump

Smiths Station’s Alonie Sutton set a new state record in winning the AHSAA Class 7A state championship in the triple jump Thursday at Gulf Shores, Ala.

Sutton had a leap of 39-feet, 6-inches, which was wind-aided.

Her teammate, Kennedy Brown, was second at 37-8.

Smiths Station’s Tyler Harman came ion sixth in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4 minutes, 26.62 seconds.

His teammate, Jaleel Ross, came in seventh in the shot put at 50-feet.

Central’s Ashleign Gary finished fourth in the discus at 107-11. Central’s Karon Delince finished sixth in the long jump at 22-09.5.

The GHSA girls meet is being held in Albany, Ga.

In Class 5A, Harris County’s Mary Clark finished third in the pole vault with a height of 10-6.

Northside’s Jasmine Herndon finished fifth in the shot put at 39-07.50. Carver’s Maliyah Holloway finished sixth in the shot put at 39-03.

Shaw’s Kiana Jackson came in sixth in the triple jump at 37-07.

Columbus’ Tiondra Grant finished seventh in the discus with a throw of 120-feet, 10 inches.

Columbus’ Brittany Floyd finished seventh in the long jump at 18-01.25.
