Smiths Station’s Mack sets state record in winning 400

Smiths Station produced its second state track champion in as many days at the AHSAA Class 7A state meet in Gulf Shores, Ala.

Myra Mack set a new state record in winning the 400-meter dash in 55.54 seconds. She beat Hoover’s Presley Weems, who had a time of 55.92. The old state record was 56.09.

Central’s Samiah Love came in third in 57.24.

Smiths Station’s Alonie Sutton won a state title Thursday in the triple jump. She also set a new state record.

Sutton wasn’t done, however, as she finished second in the long jump Friday at 18-feet, 3.5 inches. Teammate Kennedy Brown finished sixth at 126-08.50.

Smiths Station’s Harmony Stephens finished seventh in the high jump at 5-feet.

Smiths Station’s Antwon Burns came in fifth in the high jump at 6-02, while teammate Kenyonte Hudson finished sixth at 6-02.

Central’s Rachel Jackson finished third in the long jump at 17-09.50. Ashleign Gary finished third in the javelin at 113-11.

Central’s Tyrone Davis came in seventh in the 400 in 50.3.Teammate Dru Daniel finished eighth in the triple jump at 44-08.

At the GHSA state meet in Albany, Ga., Marion County’s Ansley Whitley won the state in the discus in the Class A-public school meet with a throw of 111-10.

Teammate Madison McPherson was fifth in the shot put at 31-05.5.

Brookstone’s Naeisha McClain finished second in the shot put at 41-02 and seventh in the discus at 108 in the Class A-private school meet.

Brookstone also had a pair of fourth-place finishes. Antonia Nunley finished third in the high jump at 4-10 and fourth in the triple jump at 33-06.75. Avery Holbrook tied for fourth in the pole vault at 9-6.
