High school state track roundup: Northside’s Myrthil earns second runner-up finish

Northside freshman Jonathan Myrthil finished second in the 800-meter run in 1-minute, 55.08 seconds on Saturday in the Class 5A state track meet.

Cedar Shoals’ Jonathan Oglesby won in 1:54.32.

It was Myrthil’s second runner-up finish of the meet. He came in second on Thursday in the 1,600.

Northside’s Alec Tanksley finished fifth in the 300 hurdles with a time of 38.48. Teammate Tyrris Mitchell came in seventh in the 200 in 22.56.

The Harris County 4x100-meter relay team (Juan O’Neal, Jaylyn Richardson, Jeremiah Trammell and Tyrese McPhatter) finished fifth with a time of 42. 71 seconds.

In the team standings, Northside finished seventh with 26 points. Harris County tied for 37th with four.

In the Class 3A meet, Spencer’s 4x400 team (Ameir Abrams, Jermaine Hernandez, Ryan Williams and Da-Shae Hubbard) finished third in 3:27.17. Hubbard also had a sixth-place finish in the 400 in 50.61.

Jordan’s D’Andre Snead finished fourth in the 300 hurdles in 39.8.

In the team standings, Spencer finished tied for 22nd with nine points. Jordan tied for 34th with five.

In the Class A-private school meet, Brookstone’s Wesley Tillman finished fifth in the 100 hurdles in 15.46. Teamate Joel Brown came in seventh in the 300 hurdles in 41.83.

The Cougars tied for 22nd in the team standings with six points.

In the Class 2A meet, Chattahoochee County’s Michael Guy finished fifth in the 300 hurdles in 41.59. That was Guy’s second fifth-place finish. on Thursday, he finished fifth in the long jump.

The Panthers finished tied for 21st in the team standings with eight points.
