Closer look at Friday night’s games

Columbus vs. Shaw

When: 7:30 p.m.

Where: Kinnett Stadium.

Series record: Shaw leads 23-13, including 19 straight. Last year, the Raiders won 34-24. Columbus’ last win in the series was 17-9 in 1994.

Records: Columbus 1-2, 0-0 Region 1-4A. Shaw 1-2, 0-0.

Last week: Columbus lost 28-7 to Callaway. Shaw lost 49-26 to Harris County.

You need to know: Even though it is the region opener for both teams, this game could be pivotal when it comes to deciding which teams make the playoffs.

Carver vs. Northside

When: 7:30 p.m.

Where: A.J. McClung Memorial Stadium.

Series record: Carver leads 6-0, including 28-25 last season.

Records: Carver 1-2, 0-0 Region 1-4A. Northside 2-1, 0-0.

Last week: Carver was idle. Northside beat Jordan 33-27.

You need to know: In its two losses, Carver has allowed 36.5 points per game. In its win, the Tigers blanked Spencer. … Northside lost to Spencer 35-28 after taking a 28-7 lead into the fourth quarter.

Hardaway at Cairo

When: 7:30 p.m.

Where: West Thomas Stadium

Series record: Cairo has won the only two meetings, the last coming in 1997, 35-0. The Syrupmakers won 39-21 the previous year.

Records: Hardaway 2-0, 0-0 Region 1-4A. Cairo 2-1, 0-0.

Last week: Hardaway was idle. Cairo beat Bainbridge 17-14.

You need to know: When Hardaway takes the field against Cairo, it will have been three weeks since the Hawks last played. They had a game two weeks ago at Lee County canceled due to Hurricane Hermine.

Jordan at Manchester

When: 7:30 p.m.

Where: Memorial Stadium, Manchester, Ga.

Series record: Manchester leads 9-0-1. The last meeting came in 2013, a 30-19 win for Manchester. The tie came in the first meeting in 1996, 14-14.

Records: Jordan 0-3. Manchester 3-0.

Last week: Jordan lost 33-27 to Northside. Manchester was idle.

You need to know: Offense has not been a problem for Jordan. The Red Jackets are averaging 26.7 points per game. But they are allowing 48 per contest. Quarterback Daren Lewis has thrown for 704 yards and five touchdowns. DeAndre Snead has been his favorite target. He has 15 catches for 300 yards and three scores. Aaron Maxwell has rushed for 417 yards, while Lewis has 232.

Tattnall Square at Pacelli

When: 7:30 p.m.

Where: Diemel Field.

Series record: First meeting.

Records: Tattnall Square 2-0. Pacelli 0-3.

Last week: Tattnall Square beat East Laurens 41-0. Pacelli lost to Marion County 56-14.

You need to know: This is Tattnall Square’s third season in the GHSA. The Trojans moved over from GISA.

Calvary Christian at Whitefield Academy

When: 7:30 p.m.

Where: Wolfpack Stadium, Mableton, Ga.

Series record: First meeting.

Records: Calvary Christian 2-2. Whitefield Academy 0-3.

Last week: Calvary Christian beat Covenant 49-12. Whitefield Academy lost 35-7 to King’s Ridge Christian.

You need to know: Calvary Christian plays in the GICAA, while Whitefield Academy is in the GHSA. In the past, the GHSA didn’t allow its members to play either GISA or GICAA schools, but the GHSA changed that rule prior to this season. … Whitefield Academy has scored just 14 points in its three losses.

Perry at Harris County

When: 7:30 p.m.

Where: Tiger Stadium, Hamilton, Ga.

Series record: Series is tied 6-6 with Harris County winning each of the past three meetings. The last one was 21-6 in 2001.

Records: Perry 1-1. Harris County 2-1.

Last week: Perry lost 38-6 to Peach County. Harris County beat Shaw 49-26.

You need to know:

Lamar County at Marion County

When: 7:30 p.m.

Where: Eagle Stadium, Buena Vista, Ga.

Series record: Series is tied 1-1 with Marion County winning the last meeting, 42-15, in 2007. The previous year Lamar County won 41-25.

Records: Lamar County 2-1. Marion County 3-0.

Last week: Lamar County lost 47-28 to Troup. Marion County beat Pacelli 56-14.

You need to know: JJ Fuller has completed 36-of-50 passes for 644 yards and nine touchdowns. Jalen Tullis has 20 catches for 256 yards and four scores. Mykelle Kelley has 38 rushes for 259 yards and six touchdowns.

Central at Smiths Station

When: 8 p.m.

Where: Panther Stadium, Smiths Station, Ala.

Series record: Central leads 19-5, including a 41-14 victory last season. The Red Devils have won seven straight in the series. The last Smiths Station win came in 2008, 27-24.

Records: Central 2-1, 1-0 Region 2-7A. Smiths Station 1-3, 0-2.

Last week: Central was idle. Smiths Station lost 42-14 to R.E. Lee.

You need to know: Central quarterback Zion Webb has thrown for 361 yards and three touchdowns. Justyn Ross has eight catches for 142 yards. Jaxton Carson has 43 rushing attempts for 273 yards and five touchdowns.

Glenwood at Tuscaloosa Academy

When: 8 p.m.

Where: Knights Stadium, Tuscaloosa, Ala.

Series record: Tuscaloosa Academy leads 6-4, including a 41-34 win last season.

Records: Glenwood 3-0, 1-0 AISA Region 1-3A. Tuscaloosa Academy 0-3, 0-1.

Last week: Glenwood beat Lee-Scott 35-34. Tuscaloosa Academy lost 46-3 to Bessemer Academy.

You need to know: Kashe Boatner has rushed for 331 yards and four touchdowns for Glenwood. Brandon Moseley has passed for 437 and three scores. Tripp Day has 11 catches for 176 yards.
