Northside crushes Hepzibah in Class 4A state playoff opener
Northside pummeled Hepzibah for 29 runs on 26 hits in a 12-0 and 17-0 sweep in the first round of the Class 4A state softball playoffs.
Both games were stopped after four innings due to the mercy rule.
Hannah George and Kayson Boatner hit home runs to lead the Lady Patriots (27-5) in Game 2. Those were two of eight extra-base hits. Gabi Apiag and Jordan Wells each had a double and a triple.
Wells finished the two games by going 4-for-7 with seven RBIs and five runs scored. Apiag went 3-for-6 with four runs scored and two RBIs.
Jada Chadwick went 4-for-5 with two doubles, four RBIs and two runs scored.
Meanwhile, Northside’s pitchers allowed just one hit, that coming in the second game. The Lady Patriots have pitched three straight shutouts and extended their scoreless streak to 14 innings.
Northside will host either Chestatee or Cartersville in the second round on Oct. 19-20.
