Columbus High cross country teams sweep region titles

Columbus High swept the Region 1-4A cross country championships on Thursday at Kinnett Stadium.

The Lady Blue Devils won with 29 points, followed by Northside with 43, Westover with 64, Shaw with 91, Americus-Sumter with 149 and Cairo with 159.

Columbus’ Hope Skypek won the individual title in a time of 20 minutes, 27.34 seconds. She beat teammate Harper Fine (20:45.06).

Northside’s Marisa Gonzalez (20:59.54) and Kyla Bellinski (21:08.64) finished third and fourth, respectively.

Shaw’s Semia Houston (21:26.82) was fifth.

The Blue Devils won with 31 points, followed by Northside with 45, Westover with 94, Hardaway with 116, Americus-Sumter with 139, Shaw with 146, Cairo with 1438 and Carver with 233.

Columbus’ Alex Salgado won the individual title in 16:01.67. Westover’s Henry Plowden (16:22.27) was second.

Northside’s Jonathan Myrthil (17:14.26) was third with Columbus’ Andrew White (17:47.22) fourth and Hardaway’s Korreye Russ (17:50.75) fifth.

Jordan, Spencer compete in 5-2A meet

The Jordan girls finished second in the Region 5-2A cross country meet at Kinnett Stadium on Thursday.

Jordan’s Ari’yona Thomas (25:56.87) finished 10th.

In the boys event, Jordan finished third and Spencer was fourth.

Jordan’s Demarcus Boulware (18:33.85) finished fifth, while Spencer’s Isaiah Arredondo (19:15.81) came in ninth.
