Marion County got the last laugh against fellow Class A school Chattahoochee County Friday night, as running back Travon Matthews’ nine-yard touchdown run with 49 seconds left in the fourth quarter tied the game 12-12. Wilfredo Vail’s extra point gave the Eagles the 13-12 lead, which it held onto for its second win of 2017.

Matthews’ last-minute score was his second touchdown of the evening, the other being a 1-yard run with 6:23 left in the first half. Matthews finished the day with 25 carries for 142 yards.

Chattahoochee County (0-1) put itself in position to grab its first win of the year with a strong first-half showing. The Panthers took a 6-0 lead in the first quarter after a 2-yard score from senior standout Malic Bonner. They extended their lead in the second quarter with an 85-yard interception return for touchdown from Zac Farrow.

However, the Eagles did all the scoring from there on out.
