Troup takes care of Kendrick in MCSD Fall Classic opener
The Kendrick Cherokees encountered a rude awakening in the opening game of the MCSD Fall Classic.
The Cherokees faced a touted Troup team which wasted no time in making plays, as former Columbus Blue Devil Mark-Anthony Dixon returned the opening kickoff 82 yards for a touchdown. Dixon’s return set the tone for the Tigers, who rolled over the Cherokees in a 36-8 victory.
Dixon wasn’t done after his long kickoff, either. He padded Troup’s lead with 2:27 left in the first quarter, catching a pass from Montez Crowe and taking it to the end zone for a 95-yard touchdown. Troup’s Jamari Thrash, Tyree Carlisle and Jackson Davis all found the end zone in the first half to give the Tigers a 36-0 halftime lead.
Though the Cherokees were unable to keep up, they did put forth a few promising drives. Kendrick’s opening possession after Dixon’s return lasted nearly six minutes but ultimately could not reach the end zone. Stephon Williams delivered the Cherokees’ only eight points, scoring a touchdown on a 2-yard run then caught the two-point conversion from quarterback Orlando Posey.
