COVID-19 issues cancel two Chattahoochee Valley high school football games

Two high school football games in the Chattahoochee Valley have been canceled due to COVID-19.

Marion County High’s season opener against Washington-Wilkes, scheduled for 7:30 p.m. EST Friday, has been canceled due to “a COVID situation,” at Washington-Wilkes, according to a tweet by Marion County High School.

Russell County High’s Friday night game at Park Crossing, scheduled to kick off at 8 p.m. EST/7 p.m. CT, has been canceled, Park Crossing principal Cheryl Fountain told the Ledger-Enquirer.

A Russell County player tested positive for COVID-19, according to RCSD Superintendent Brenda Coley, which led to the game’s cancellation. All football workouts and activities are canceled “until further notice,” according to Coley.

“We are hopeful and will continue to move forward with our football schedule as soon as it is safe to resume,” Coley said in a release.

Conversations regarding rescheduling the Russell County-Park Crossing game have not taken place at this time, according to Fountain.

The Warriors forfeited their game against Smiths Station after the school district postponed all fall sports until Sept. 4.

This is also the second game that Park Crossing has missed due to COVID-19. Dothan High, Park Crossing’s week two opponent, canceled its first two games after a positive COVID-19 case was confirmed in the athletics department.

Park Crossing leads the all-time series over Russell County 6-0.
