For the first time in over a decade, the Carver Tigers could win a football state championship.

They’re one win away from doing so, after a hard-fought win over Cedartown last week.

The Tigers face Benedictine, out of Savannah, for the Georgia High School Association Class 4A state football championship Friday. The game kicks off at 3:30 p.m. from Center Parc Stadium, formerly Turner Field, in Atlanta.

Here’s a quick look at Carver’s playoff path so far:

  • Carver 22, West Laurens 7
  • Carver 52, Hapeville Charter 12
  • Carver 16, Dougherty 14
  • Carver 22, Cedartown 21

The Cadets, 12-2 on the season, won playoff games against Thomas County Central, Luella, 2020 state champion Marist and North Oconee to reach the title game.

Benedictine has not lost a game since early September. Carver hasn’t lost since its season opener.

The Ledger-Enquirer will be in Atlanta Friday to cover the game, provide live scoring updates and postgame coverage.
