The Columbus Lions will use Chris McCoy as their No. 2 quarterback behind starter Todd Spitzer on Saturday when they close the regular season at the Fayetteville Guard, according to coach Jason Gibson.
McCoy played on a short series and was sacked twice in the season-opening loss at the Carolina Speed, and has not played since.
"He told me, 'Coach, give me the chance and put me in the shotgun and I'll do something,' " Gibson said. "We just started using the shotgun, and he's worked so hard for us at practice all season, I told him I'd put him in as our No. 2."
The status for linebacker Ryan Babb, who sat out last week against Florence with a sprained right knee, is still unknown. Gibson said he will make a decision on when Babb can return after getting back MRI results and discussing options with a doctor.
"He may be out for the season, he may be out for another week. We really don't know anything without the MRI yet," Gibson said.
Defensive back Jason Perry will return to the lineup this week after missing a week for personal reasons.
