GHSFD talks Class AAA; Columbus, Shaw predicted to miss playoffs this season

The Georgia High School Football Daily hit Class AAA today, and here are some highlights:

- LaGrange has the sixth-toughest schedule in Class AAA and Troup's is No. 10, according to the Maxwell Ratings.

- The Maxwell Ratings picked Carrollton, LaGrange, Troup and Central-Carrollton to make the playoffs from Region 6-AAA, leaving out Columbus and Shaw among others.

- Those same ratings predicted Shaw would finish 3-7 and Columbus 2-8 (again??).

- Shaw is ranked the No. 58 team in Class AAA and Columbus No. 73.

- And someone even asked how Hardaway's schedule could have been slighted a day earlier when compiling the toughest Class AAAA schedules.

Here are some excerpts from the GHSFD newsletter, which is free and pretty awesome to wake up to in your inbox each day, so sign up for it.

Maxwell slights Hardaway's tough schedule

I know Maxwell rated them, but I find it hard to believe Hardaway doesn't have a top 10 toughest schedule. Wow!

GHSF Daily: We agree. Hardaway does have one of the 10 toughest schedules in Class AAAA, in our opinion. Keep in mind that the Maxwell Ratings are purely mathematical, and as a result, we believe they overrated Region 8-AAAA and their schedules. But here's the logic: Region 8-AAAA played no non-region opponents last year until the playoffs, and the region showed exceptional parity during the regular season. Monroe Area (0-10) lost only 18-15 to Rockdale County, an eventual state-playoff semifinalist. If a region shows parity, then fares well in the playoffs - sending three teams to the quarterfinals, two to the semifinals and one to the title game - an objective analysis of the scores will conclude that 8-AAAA is far and away the best region in its classification, and its members therefore will have the toughest schedules in 2010.
