Atlanta Falcons sign Columbus Lions receiver Troy Bergeron
The Atlanta Falcons signed Troy Bergeron as a free agent on Sunday. He participated in the Falcons’ mini-camp as a tryout player over the weekend, according to the team.
Bergeron was a member of the Columbus Lions, and led the team in receiving yards, touchdowns and catches. The Falcons signed him on April , but released him just a day later because he had injured his hamstring in a game with the Lions. The team said it would offer him another chance to sign if he could pass a physical when his hamstring was healed, Bergeron said.
The 6-2, 195-pound former Shaw star played with the AFL’s Georgia Force for three seasons and was named AFL Rookie of the Year in 2005. He signed with the Lions after the AFL announced it was canceling its 2009 season.
Bergeron signed with the Falcons in 2006 but was released after training camp. He signed with the Buffalo Bills as a member of the practice squad later that season.
