Former Shaw receiver Bergeron doesn't make Falcons' practice squad this year

Former Shaw receiver Troy Bergeron landed a spot on the Atlanta Falcons' practice squad the previous two seasons, but it looks like he will have to find a way to make the active roster or sign with another team this year.

Bergeron was among 21 cut by the Falcons last week in order to reach the 53-man roster limit, and it appears his practice squad eligibility may have been used up. According to the NFL's collective bargaining agreement, a player is only eligible for a third season on a team's practice squad if the team only if that team's active roster never dipped below the 53-man limit. I suppose that a team maintaining that 53-man roster means the practice squad player in question never got a chance to make the team full-time. I'm trying to find out if the Falcons' roster ever dipped below 53 during his time with the team, but no luck yet verifying that.

If Bergeron's eligibility with the Falcons is up, he is still free to sign with another team's practice or active rosters.

If you recall, Bergeron was signed to the active team four times last season but never got the ball. The Falcons signed WR Tim Buckley to the practice squad Sunday.

I'm trying to get in touch with Bergeron today for an update, so keep checking back here and in the paper this week to see what he plans to do next.
