UPDATE 2/25, 4:450 p.m.: A new Muscogee County School District high school football schedule has been released with a Carver-Buford matchup at Buford set for Sept. 2 with a mention of the possibility Carver may participate in the 2011 Kirk Herbstreit National Kickoff Classic in Texas.
The Carver and Buford football teams are likely to meet again on Sept. 2 despite Carver being in talks to participate in the 2011 Kirk Herbstreit National Kickoff Classic in Texas, Carver coach Dell McGee said Friday.
The first version of the Muscogee County School District 2011 football schedule was released Friday and shows Carver set to play in Texas on Sept. 2 against a yet-to-be-determined team as part of the kickoff event. But McGee said those plans are far from solid.
“It’s not a definite yet, and there are a lot of things that have to be resolved before we can do anything,” McGee said. “There is still a lot of planning that has to be done, and it’s a good possibility that it won’t go through.”
If Carver does not finalize plans to play in Texas, McGee said he has tentative plans to travel to play at Buford on Sept. 2 in a rematch of last season's No. 1-vs.-No. 2 showdown.
The Kirk Herbstreit National Kickoff Classic pits some of the best teams in Texas and Ohio against top programs from around the country. Last year, four games were played at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, and four at Ohio Stadium in Columbus, Ohio. Each game was televised nationally.
