Former Shaw reciever Troy Bergeron back with AFL's Cleveland Gladiators to avoid NFL lockout woes
Bergeron signed with the Dallas Cowboys practice squad in the final three weeks of last season, but the lockout voided his offseason contract and led him to signing with the AFL's Cleveland Gladiators.
From the nola.com story...
"It was a good opportunity for me," Bergeron said. "I knew I was going to have to find some kind of job. I've got money saved up, but nobody in my position has years and years of money saved up."
If you're having trouble remembering Bergeron, he was a member of Shaw's 2000 state championship squad, signed with Auburn and then transferred to Middle Tennessee State but never played a down of college football, was AFL Rookie of the Year with the Georgia Force, spent part of a season with the Columbus Lions, has done stints on the Buffalo Bills', Atlanta Falcons' and Cowboys' practice squads, and was even on the Falcons' active roster for a couple of weeks two seasons ago.
