It feels like only yesterday I breathed the heaviest sigh of relief of my professional career when I walked out the door of an event center on Victory Drive following the Carver football team’s national signing day ceremony.
After months of daily calls to Carver coach Dell McGee and what felt like hundreds of hours waiting for Carver practices to end and then hurriedly trying to catch elusive players for quick recruiting updates, it was a relief to have it behind me.
But so it starts again. Deep breath...
According to recruiting sites Rivals and Scout, several Carver players have been quite busy on the recruiting trail. WR/TE Artimas Samuel recently has been offered a scholarship by Michigan State, Alabama, Miami and Florida, and CB Deion Bonner has also picked up an offer from Miami to go with the list of Division I schools that began offering him last year. And according to Rivals, Bonner plans to visit Alabama this weekend and Samuel may go as well.
And again according to these sites' databases, Carver DL Derious Bennett has offers from Houston and Marshall. Former Carver DL and Auburn signee Gabe Wright was always telling me how good Bennett was last season and told me several times he believed Tennessee was close to offering him a scholarship and that others would follow.
Here’s my national signing day watch list for the class of 2012, as in the kids I expect you’ll be constantly hearing about as they go on visit after visit and pile up dozens of offers before they announce the make a decision on or just before national signing day. There will be tons of kids signing again this year, but these are just the ones I should apologize to in advance for bugging them for updates as they wait to announce - or even make - their decisions.
