Columbus Lions land seven players on All-SIFL team
Columbus' first-team selections are OL Dion Small, K Trey Crum, LB Justen Rivers, DB Damian Daniels and KR Anthony Merritt, and the Lions' second-team selections are WR Gerald Gales and DL Chris Bradwell.
The SIFL coaches voted on the team this year rather league and team executives, and Lions coach Jason Gibson said he feels that made the selections a more accurate depiction of the league's talent.
“It’s rewarding for our guys because, for once, the coaches voted on this,” Gibson said. “That means the most when coaches or other players vote on you. When you get (general managers) and owners picking the team, I don’t think it’s as accurate. With coaches voting, it has a lot more weight.”
The Houston Stallions also had seven players chosen for the team, but no other team placed as many first-team athletes as the Lions. The SIFL champion Albany Panthers had one first-team selection, DB Lavarance Richmond, and placed four athletes on the second team.
The SIFL is expected to release its list of players of the year today, Gibson said.
