Shaw offensive lineman Austin Hester signed with Georgia Military College on Wednesday’s national signing day during a ceremony at the school. The 6-foot-5, 312-pound Hester is slated to play guard for the Bulldogs at a proposed 290 pounds.
Hester also had offers from East Carolina and Cincinnati but chose the junior college route to get his grades in order.
“I chose the hard route because of my grades,” Hester said.
Hester had no issues with his grades on the field as he graded out at over 90 percent on the line as a sophomore, junior and senior on the way to becoming a three-time selection to the Ledger-Enquirer's All-Bi-City first-team and a Dandy Dozen selection.
Hester is looking forward to the structured military setting of GMC, which is located in Milledgeville, Ga.
When asked how the rigid requirements of a military school sounded Hester replied, “Fun.”
