BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — There were multiple state champions from Central and Smiths Station in the AHSAA Class 7A state indoor track meet on Saturday.
Central’s girls 4x400 relay team (Monica McNeil, Rachel Jackson, Raylin Martin and Samiah Love) won a state title with a time of 3:59.53, which was a new state record. And Smiths Station’s Kennedy Brown won on the triple jump with a leap of 36 feet 11.75 inches.
McNeil finished fifth in the 800. Love was fourth in the 400. Adrianna Gary came in seventh in the shot put.
Central finished seventh in the girls 4x800 relay and eighth in the girls 4x200 relay.
The Central boys 4x200-meter relay team finished second in 1:30.13. Auburn won in a record time of 1:29.35. Central also finished second in the 4x400 in 3:24.63 behind Auburn’s 3:22.90. Smiths Station was fifth.
Central’s Karon Delince finished second in the long jump with a leap of 21 feet, 11 inches. Hewitt-Trussville’s Noah Igbinoghene won with a state record of 23-06. Delince also finished second in the 60 with a time of 6.94. Thompson’s Emmanuel Tait won in 6.91.
Central’s Japrentiss Jones came in fourth in the 400. Kahari Williams was third in the 60-meter hurdles.
Smiths Station’s Brown finished second in the long jump at 17-feet, nine inches behind Kayla Williams of James Clements.
Kenyonte Hudson finished fourth in the high jump and eighth in the triple jump. Charles Hughes came in sixth in the 400 and eighth in the 800. Jaleel Ross was eighth in the shot put.
In the girls team standings, Central finished tied for eighth with 24 points, while Smiths Station was 10th with 18. Hoover won with 126. The Central boys came in sixth with 43 points, while Smiths Station was 10th with 19. Auburn won with 110.5.
