Rosters for 2016 Valley All-Star games released on Monday

Rosters for the 2016 senior and underclassmen Valley All-Star games were released at an event at Carver High on Monday, kicking off the week for Friday’s games.

Four games, a dunk contest and a three-point shootout with be held on Friday beginning at 5 p.m. at Carver High.

The girls underclassmen will tip off at 5 p.m., the boys underclassmen at 6 p.m., the senior girls at 7 p.m., followed by the dunk and three-point contests, and then the senior boys at about 8:30 p.m. This is the first year that an underclassmen game will be played, and it will feature a number of top prospects, particularly in the girls game.

Players like Columbus’ Tatyana Wyatt and Ariyah Copeland and Harris County’s Jessika Carter are all receiving Division I attention.

Columbus’ Joe Cherrone will coach the girls underclassmen, and he said his group will all be motivated to compete at a high level on Friday.

“Oh, yeah,” he said. “The girls are excited. It’s the first underclassmen game, so they want to get that first win. The girls I have are all complete competitors.”

As for the boys, a number of the area’s best players will be taking part in the senior all-star game. Shaw’s trio of Dakeen Diaz, Cam Paulding and Kourtney Shakespeare, along with Northside’s Davion Thomas, among others, look to lead the way for the Georgia team. In Alabama, Central’s Tre Todd and Tionne Williams are fresh off of a state title game appearance and are looking to end their year on a high note.

Georgia boys seniors coach Terry White said it’s all about having fun and earning bragging rights on Friday.

“It’s all for pride now,” he said. “Georgia, Alabama, everyone wants to go out with a win. It’s about having fun, trying to win, and representing our area.

Admission to the event is $10 for the entire day.
