High school roundup: Hardaway-Harris County game canceled, will be made up Friday and Saturday
The Hardaway and Harris County baseball teams attempted to get their region clash in Hamilton finished before inclement hit the area on Thursday, but completed just three innings before the game was called for lightning and rain.
The Hawks held a 4-2 lead when the game was canceled, giving Harris County a reprieve. The game will be played from the beginning when it is made up at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Harris County. Friday’s original game between the two teams has been moved to noon Saturday at Hardaway.
On Thursday, Hardaway plated a run in the first and three more in the second, offsetting two runs scored by the Tigers. A minimum of four inning is required to make a game official when the visiting team is leading. The two teams had just finished the third inning when a 30-minute lightning delay was called. The delay allowed time for the heavy rain to make it to Hamilton and prevent the game from being completed.
The two teams entered Thursday’s game tied in the loss column with two losses in Region 1-5A play. Hardaway is 4-2 overall, while Harris County is 3-2. They are in third and fourth in the region, respectively. Columbus holds first place in region play at 6-1, and Northside comes in second at 6-2.
